Mary Jane Matcham

Reading Intervention

Mary Jane Matcham is an Orton-Gillingham certified reading specialist. She joins St. Mary’s School in German Village from St. Mary’s in Delaware, Ohio, where she worked as a reading specialist for the past ten years.

Throughout her 20 years of experience in education, Mrs. Matcham has worked with K-8 classroom teachers to develop individualized plans to help struggling students improve their reading skills. She specializes in helping students with ADHD and dyslexia. Mrs. Matcham works one-on-one with students, as well as in small groups, to help readers gain fluency and improve comprehension, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and writing skills.

“Each child is unique and deserves an individualized lesson that builds confidence and moves them along the literacy continuum. This philosophy fosters a love of learning,” Mrs. Matcham said. “I’ve experienced first-hand how children are very intuitive. They sense when their buddies are having an easier time of it at school than they are. They also know after spending time with me, I am here to help.”

Mrs. Matcham is a Baldwin Wallace University graduate with degrees in business and education.

Outside of school, Mrs. Matcham enjoys kayaking and hiking with her husband and Golden Retriever, Red-E. She is the youngest of nine children and loves being “Auntie Mar” to her extended family with many nieces and nephews–and now grand-nieces and grand-nephews, too!
