Catholic Focus

At Saint Mary School, our Catholic faith is the foundation of everything we do. Rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, we nurture students’ hearts and minds through daily prayer, weekly Mass, and a commitment to serving others.

Saint Mary School

Catholic Focus

At Saint Mary School, our Catholic identity is at the heart of everything we do. In close partnership with Saint Mary Parish, we guide students to grow in their relationship with Christ, develop a strong moral foundation, and live out their faith with joy and purpose. Through prayer, sacramental life, and daily instruction rooted in Gospel values, we nurture a community where students are formed as disciples—both in the classroom and beyond.

Our Catholic Focus

At St. Mary School, our Catholic identity isn’t something we add on — it’s woven into every part of school life. As part of St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in German Village, our students, families, and staff are grounded first and foremost in the life of Christ and the rich traditions of the Catholic Church. Mass, prayer, service, scripture, and sacramental life form the heartbeat of who we are and how we learn together.

Rooted in Parish Life

St. Mary has been a vibrant Catholic community since 1865, grounded in Christ and the Eucharist, and rooted in loving God and loving neighbor. We gather weekly to celebrate Mass, which is central to our identity as Catholics and as a school community. Regular Mass attendance and participation in parish life help shape our students into disciples who live their faith with joy and purpose.

Weekly Mass & Worship

Worship is at the center of our Catholic focus. Our parish family gathers every week and on Holy Days of Obligation at Mass — where we encounter Jesus, grow in faith, and celebrate as a community. Through Mass, daily prayer, and participation in the sacraments, our students learn the beauty and power of Christ’s presence in their lives.

Faith Formation with Heart: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

A signature part of how we nurture young hearts and minds is through Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) — a Montessori-inspired faith formation program that invites children into a deeper relationship with God through Scripture, prayer, and liturgical experiences. In the prepared environment of the atrium, children encounter the Good Shepherd and are guided to explore the mysteries of our faith in a way that’s joyful, contemplative, and deeply personal.

CGS teaches that children are not just learners of facts, but seekers with an innate ability to encounter God. Through age-appropriate materials and quiet reflection, students grow spiritually and gain a stronger understanding of the Mass and Catholic tradition.

Sacramental Life & Daily Faith Practice

Living our Catholic faith means more than attending Mass — it means growing in prayer, participating in the sacraments, and serving others. Our school and parish work together to support students through sacramental preparation (including Reconciliation and Eucharist) and ongoing opportunities to encounter Christ.

Whether it’s praying together in the classroom, receiving the Eucharist, or learning the prayers of our tradition, every day invites students to know Jesus more fully and to become His hands and heart in the world.

A Community of Love & Service

Our Catholic focus shapes how we treat one another and how we serve beyond our school walls. Inspired by the Gospel and the example of Mary, we strive to live with compassion, humility, courage, and joy — not just in what we learn, but in how we act.
