Meet Mary Jane Matcham. An Orton-Gillingham certified reading specialist, Mrs. Matcham joins Saint Mary School in German Village after spending the past decade at St. Mary in Delaware, Ohio, where she worked as a reading specialist. With 20 years of experience in education, Mrs. Matcham has dedicated her career to helping K-8 students improve their reading skills, especially those with ADHD and dyslexia. Her approach involves working one-on-one and in small groups to build fluency, comprehension, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and writing skills. Believing that each child deserves an individualized lesson that builds confidence, Mrs. Matcham is passionate about fostering a love of learning in her students. She often says, “Children are intuitive—they know when their peers have an easier time in school, but they also know I’m here to help them succeed.”
A graduate of Baldwin Wallace University with degrees in business and education, Mrs. Matcham is well-prepared to support her students. Outside of school, she loves kayaking and hiking with her husband and their Golden Retriever, Red-E. As the youngest of nine children, she cherishes her role as “Auntie Mar” to many nieces, nephews, and now grand-nieces and grand-nephews too!
